but it IS good quality for this price point

I adore this dress. I needed a white(ish) dress that I could paint on for Halloween, and I could see why on other websites this dress was being promoted as a wedding dress. (It should not be a wedding dress, but it IS good quality for this price point.)I am right on the cusp between regular sizes and plus sizes, (at dress barn I am a size 16 womens, but not a size 16 misses if that makes any sense.) I am 5' 7" and about 215 lbs with most of the chubb in my tummy. So after reading reviews I ordered a size 18 because some reviews said it was tight. Well, that was a mistake for me, I should have ordered a size 16, but alas, there were none in stock, and I needed to get painting. I ordered a size 14 and squeezed in.I was a little smooshed in the upper tummy at size 14, but since it flares out, my lower gut was just fine. Size 18 was just an inch or two too loose where it needed to be against the upper tummy. At the smaller size, I could see why some reviews complained about the shoulders. It wasn't uncomfortable normally, but driving to and from work, I could feel the bites of the armholes. If I had ordered the size 16 when it was available, this dress would have fit perfectly; at size 14 the backrolls were a little more apparent, but I still loved it.The ivory color isn't over yellow, and not brilliant white. For my costume, I wore white petticoat and it was super cute with that extra flare. I got frustrated during ironing, there is a lot of fabric to iron, and it seemed like the dress wrinkled a little bit easier than I would have liked. Now for the biggest negative, (if this were to be just an ivory dress for bridal purposes): In the ivory color, although the fabric was pretty thick compared to most white fabrics in the world, the dress has this sort of built-in fabric flap below the scalloped neckline to right across the ladies under the top layer. It's kind of like when you have two pieces of notebook paper instead of just one. Wherever you have two notebook pieces of paper, the top paper shows up brighter, and the divider line with the third layer for a seam, is distractedly exactly across my perkiest points. Thank goodness my costume required paint right about there. I think this issue would have not been anywhere near as apparent in a non ivory color, but if you want this dress in the ivory color, then just know that it is a very even line, and there are probably ways of diminishing that particular effect with minor alterations.I would certainly purchase this dress again, (which I did if you think about it.) And also the return and re-order went smoothly. I got a ton of compliments on this dress.I am going to attempt to upload pictures, the front view of the dress was the size 18 that I tried on the second it arrived, and the back view is the size 14 after ironing and after fussing over it, the bubble at the bottom is because the petticoat wasn't quite right. The 14 was more flattering, but showed the back rolls because it was just a bit too tight. This is the first time I've given full disclosure on my size and weight, so if this review was helpful, please click that helpful button.

Love this dress!! I initially bought the Ivory one and I loved it to much that I bought the black and red as well. I'm 5'7 and a 14 top, 16 bottom. I bought the 14 in all colors and they all fit like a charm.
Strange lining halfway through the bust, but otherwise a beautiful dress with great drape
Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2017
I like this dress a lot, but there is a strange lining in the bust, as noted by other reviewers. The bodice is not fully lined; there is just a lining that comes down about 3-4" from the center middle of the dress. For smaller-busted wearers, this might hit perfectly, but for me (I'm a 38J) the lining comes down about halfway over my breasts and then just ends there. Worse, the bodice of the dress has some bust darts, but the lining does not, so the lining was squashing me on top, almost creating quad boobs, and there's a visible hem across my bust where the lining just ends.If you are as busty as me, I do not recommend this dress unless you are really sizing up and then getting it taken in everywhere else. I ordered my regular size and it's tight across the chest (even with the lining removed). I am wearing this for a costumey thing so I am not too concerned with that, but if you are a purist for good boob shape and you can't size up, this might not be the dress for you.Other than the lining issue, this is a very pretty dress! Some of the other reviewers called the material "cotton" but it's really a blend with a nice sheen and drape. My waist cincher is visible under thinner fabric, but was not noticeable under this, and the skirt looked lovely draped over a big crinoline. My crinolines are 25" long but 23" would also work with this skirt, I think. Love the neckline- not too low and I can wear a regular bra.
Classic, timeless, elegant, so Audrey-Hepburn-esque!!

Oooh lala! This dress is so classically beautiful! The description fits it perfectly--it conjures up visions of Audrey Hepburn with white gloves, heels, and pearls. The fabric is not very stretchy but it fits this style well. I'm a teacher and while this dress is classy and gorgeous, it's also comfortable enough to wear all day. I love the scalloped details on the neckline, too--so classic and feminine. The zipper is well-concealed in the back and seems to be durable and well-constructed. The fit is slim through the bust and waist and then billows out a bit from the waist down. It won't stand out as much as the stock photo shows unless you wear a tutu or crinoline underneath, FYI. It doesn't look bad on its own, but will be much more 50's style if you wear something underneath to make it stand out I am in love with this dress and have already received several compliments on it!
Well made dress... beautiful thick cotton!
Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2015
This is a very pretty, well made dress and the material is a thick cotton. Its exactly the look I was going for, and I cant wait to wear it! I advise to GET YOUR MEASUREMENTS (with the bra you are going to wear)! I'm 5'5" at 44, 37, 46, which according to the size chart, would be a 16W, but I ordered an 18 Plus (essentially a size up), so I would be more comfortable, and knowing that I could get it altered in the waist. After first putting it on, it fits fairly well. The shoulders are a bit broad and probably works better for a taller person ( or someone with a longer torso). But for me, I usually find that plus size clothing are too large in the shoulders anyway. Although shipping took longer then was estimated, overall I am satisfied with the purchase, and for the price, I would certainly recommend this dress!

I read the reviews and went with the bigger size I would say im in between a 14/16 so went for the 18- it was huge so re-ordered and went for the 14 it fits fantastic, the material is really nice and lots of it in the skirt I bought the petticoat for it too but to be honest you dont really need it as their is enough material in the skirt and with the petticoat sitting down well i looked like the sugar plum fairy. All in all its a fantastic dress looks more expensive than the £20 I spent on it

Going by other reviews I went up a size and I'm so glad I did. I'm usually a 12 but ordered a 14 and I don't have a huge chest but there is no way the 12 would have fit. The 14 just fit my chest and I only had to have the waist taken in slightly. Good thick material with a 360o dress, just remember the vintage underskirt!
