I get really annoyed at people that buy stuff that's well described with lots of pictures and then write a bad review because it doesn't have such and such features. "not big enough to hold my stuff": The dimensions of the product and the items it can hold are well described. "handle should be on top not the back": Do you realize if it were on top instead of high on the back it would be on the cover strap? Do you know what would happen then when you pick it up? "doesn't close securely, it just has Velcro": Did it ever say anywhere that it closes securely? Admittedly the description should mention the Velcro closure but that's the fault of Amazon not the bag or it's maker. My assumption when I bought it was that the flap just hangs over the side. The Velcro was a nice addition that I didn't know was there. Maybe I'll get flagged for chastising other reviewers but use your brain. The bag is excellent for the purpose it was designed for and quite large compared to most others that are similar. I looked carefully for the dimensions I needed because I wanted to stick my 14" compartmented clipboard in there, a couple water bottles, food, and a few other tools. I bought it to replace one of those grocery store reusable shopping bags and I use it to walk a couple blocks to where my car is stored. The shoulder strap is well padded and very comfortable. Also I love the classic look. For $22 you get a nice big bag to throw your stuff in quickly.

Great bag. Velcro is perfect and it stays closed and opens easily. Can tolerate a lot of abuse as it is canvas. Great so far for college rough use. No signs of tearing or rips with heavy and intentionally negligent use.Fits 15 inch laptop and binder easily.Does require some modification though. Metal joints connecting strap to bag are flimsy and rotate from the horizontal to vertical position with any weight in the bag. Can be solved by reinforcing with something else or replacing strap. I used novelty climbing clips and the problem went away (see pictures).Great bag. Flawed but easily fixable strap design.

My teenage son prefers messenger bags to backpacks and needed a new one for this new school year. We had a hard time finding one in stores and finally found this one online. It's well made and rugged. Plain, but not fancy. The inner compartment is big enough for his notebooks, lunch bag and tablet, and the pockets are conveniently sized for everything else. He loves having a side pocket just for a water bottle. He's 5'8" and with the adjustable shoulder strap, the bag is a comfortable fit. So far, even with riding the bus and being used all day, this bag is sturdy and he is very happy with it. I am happy with a great product at a great price.Update May 2018:My son has used this bag for the entire school year. It has survived two daily bus rides, being thrown on the floor and tossed into corners. It has held up incredibly well. No rips or tears. At this rate, he can use it again next year. And if he couldn't, I'd buy another one just because this one has lasted so long.

It says it’s a man’s bag but I was going to Europe and I needed a new carryon bag. Plus I knew we would be walking a lot and I didn’t want to carry a designer purse in major tourist spots. I looked for something just like this at a ton of stores and I couldn’t find anything I liked. I was running out of time and decided to try Amazon, which I should have tried in the first place, took me about 1 minute to find this. I ordered it in the gray color and it was here in 2 days. It was perfect, has a bunch of little pockets along the front and side of the bag, which you can keep everything organized. The big pocket fit my IPad, quart size water bottle, prescription medicines and everything else I wanted to take. It held up really good except for the front flap velcro’s Into place on the fabric front little pockets and it has pilled the fabric all up. I don’t know how they could fix this problem but it looked bad and worn when I would open the flap up by the end of the trip. But it wasn’t expensive at all and I would definitely order this again. Very stylish and it’s unisex.

I'm going to tell you a little tale.I REALLY want an "Indiana Jones" bag. It's a WWII era British MKVII Gas Mask Bag, with a custom leather strap. I also needed a practical bag to carry my laptop and other notebooks and papers and things in. Unfortunately, my laptop was far too big to fit in an actual "Indy Bag", so I went about trying to find something that would a similar style. I came across this bag and thought I would give it a try! I bought a leather strap to use from right here on Amazon and I think it looks pretty similar! It's not exact of course, but its nerdy enough for me.The bag itself is pretty nice. It's made from durable canvas, and the strap it comes with is a nice canvas webbing. The strap is sewn on, and I was hesitant to cut it off to put my leather one on. I was able to just cinch it down as small as it would get and keep it tucked inside, just in case I need it later. The handle on the back is a little weird, but it is fine. I usually grab it by the strap anyway. It has a small zippered pocket hanging in the back of the main compartment, and that is handy for putting small loose items in. The main compartment is big enough for my MacBook plus folders, notebooks, comics, bills, and all the other stuff my "Man Purse" (I mean Indiana Jones satchel) can collect. There are two loose pockets in the front that are where the velcro from the cover flap attach to. I have stuff in there now, but it sort of makes me nervous having it all loose in there. I might get some little mini bags to put in there to collect those loose items and keep them from falling out. I also put a bit of foam at the bottom of the main compartment to keep my computer from hitting the ground when I place it in there.I may also add some magnetic clasps on the cover flap to keep the flap from coming undone. The velcro feels a little wishy-washy for my liking. So, to sum up:Durable construction. Needs some upgrades to be *perfect* for my use, but cost-effective enough to easily do that stuff myself without feeling ripped off.

Easy to wear plain canvas bag. Not as deep as most messenger bags, but does have 4 smallish pockets. Strap long enough to hang low. Flap only barely secured with Velcro. Add better fasteners if using for valuable items.
