alien arms but sturdy

these soft shells are great. i bought one for my son in youth large and it fit me, was a great weight, very useful, repels water like a duck....so i bought myself a women’s small based on my measurments and the provided chart...it is gigantic.... the arms come very well past my mid-knuckles and the arms are incredibly loose in the cuff with no way to cinch them down, there is elastic there but it is wofty, it makes it impossible to fold a decent cuff to hide the alien arm length. the torso is baggy, the neck as well...i could wear, no joke, two or three heavy weight sweaters under it and a knitted scarf inside the neck. it’s a quality product just huge.....except the length is spot on, like denim jack length, certainly not mid thigh.. more hip/panty line. i am kindof small, usually wear small, saw it ran large but i have been feeling pudgy so i ordered to size...wrong...but i cannot return for extra small, no time, need immediately, i hope it keeps me warm. that is another thing! my son’s is heavier weight, still thin, same material, same fleece inside but heavier weight.... why, why, why can women not have sturdy clothes to, at least it has pockets..... it is a great jacket...it is fun to just turn the faucet on and watch the water cascade off, the deep red is less berry or burgundy, but very pleasing, will match well with neutrals, certainly not pink as one reviewer mentioned....more muted burdundy with minimal haze of perhaps violet, ok actually but won’t match oxblood, burgundy, deep red etc...like a propreitary color...help for sizing... in jackets i wear 4, small, shirts small to medium in adult brands as different from young lady/junior brands. 5’4” 125-130 lbs, hourglass to pear... if i had more time i would either return and buy extra small or have the silly sleeves tailored. i will wear it open as much as possible because it looks a bit funny so big.

Water resistant but not made of plastic

Wanted a light, waterproof jacket that wasn’t constructed of windbreaker material. This fits the bill perfectly. The dark purple color is lovely and a great alternative to black. As other reviewers mentioned it fits a bit snug so order a size up. Columbia quality can’t be beat.

Very nice jacket, but

This is a very nice women's softshell jacket from Columbia. It is stretchy, nice material, reportedly water-resistant, and has zipper pockets. In other words everything we look for in a jacket. We send it back because the sleeves were too long. But a very nice product.

Decent materials, weird sizing.

I ordered this first in a M, then in a S, then in an XS. The XS was the closest to a good fit, and I'm normally a S. It runs large and roomy inside, kind of baggy and unflattering. The arms are very long and cover my hands. I don't have problems with fit like this normally. I'm not sure if Amazon just got the last run of the mill of these or what, but I returned all of them. Other than the weird sizing, the jacket itself seems like it is made of high quality materials. Wish it had worked out for me.

Very soft

I liked this jacket a lot. The only problem for me is that my stomach was larger than my bust so it fit larger on the top for me. I also have shorter arms and the sleeves fit long but it was easy to fold them. It is really soft on the inside but I still felt the cold wind when we were in the mountains, definitely recommend wearing a light sweater underneath.

Warm and weather resistant comfort

We have serious winter weather in western NY and my office is chilly so this is the best strategy for working with a jacket to keep my body heat in. Columbia created a heavy, water-resistant shell and lined with a light fleece. The purple is bright. So pleased I ordered another color yesterday.

Not exceptional at any one thing but gets the job done

Bought this for my gf. She loved the color. The jacket is perfect for doing a little bit of everything though it’s not great at any one thing. It blocks some wind, looks nice, is water repellent (add some DWR spray), and works well if you layer under it. My gf often wears a slim fit Patagonia better sweater (slim fit) under this. She’s 5’3, 105lbs, and wears xs for both.

Just wish the arms were a little shorter.

I love all my Columbia gear, really appreciate that they sell plus size. My only complaint is that the arms are a little long and there is no good way to cuff, but ultimately, this coat is exactly what I expected.

i needed a good spring/fall jacket and i was able to get a good deal on this.I"m very happy with the softshell. It fits just slightly on the bigger side, but good for me since i like to wear sweaters under.
