This is a very warm coat as others have said and as some have tested in much colder climate than in the UK. It is very comfortable to wear, weight is probably appropriate to its warmth. There are two inner pockets which I find very useful. I think it would look better on taller people. I am 5 '2 wearing S, the coat comes down to one inch below my knees so it does swamp me a bit.Update: This is the second winter I have had this. I found this year colder than last and I have found that I can’t live without this coat. It is super warm so there is no need for bulky layers. I usually just have a cotton top underneath and the coat keeps me very well insulated. For comparison I also have the Northface arctic parka and the Patagonia tres 3 in 1 coat. The Marmot is by far the warmest and most comfortable. Obviously the other two have better weather resistance having water-repelling outer shells. That said I was caught in a heavy shower once while wearing the Marmot. The outer fabric looked pretty soaked but after I hung it up upon arriving home the fabric dried completely in no time. I am so impressed with this coat that I have decided to buy exclusively Marmot down coats for my children from now as I believe they are quality products and one of the warmest on the market.

Very awkward cut

This coat in navy appears quite a bit darker in person than the photo. The interior fleece is black and incredibly soft like velvet. The pockets inside are generous. The pockets outside are fleece lined and large as well. The problem is the cut. This jacket was ordered for someone weighing 118, 5'3, 34B. In size small it cannot be zipped all the way because it is so tight in the chest. The chest is 17.5" across, however the arms are cut so big and so deep into the chest that the top of the jacket across the shoulders only measures ~12". I'm not sure whose shoulders are 13.5" across but the arms of the jacket actually start in the chest portion of the jacket such that it takes material away from the chest. It literally pulls across the chest if you are 34B. Most people have shoulders wider than their chest. In size small the arms are cut with a very slight taper to the wrist and are generous in the bicep. But because the shoulder is cut so short width-wise, the arms plank out on the sides so it looks like you have little shoulders and really large biceps, elbows and forearms. It makes you actually look quite a bit heavier if your arms are small. In size medium the arms are 2" wider, fall mid-hand, and are way too big for someone who weighs 118 unless you carry all of your weight in your arms. It makes you look significantly larger because the arms plank out. In medium the shoulder measurement is 13.5" with an 18.5" chest. Again, I'm not sure whose shoulders are smaller than their chest so it's difficult to see why someone would design a coat this way. Though the chest seems like it would accommodate a 37" chest it actually is still pulling in the chest because the shoulders are so small width-wise. Here again it looks like you have tiny shoulders and enormous arms like a football player. Such a shame because it's a beautiful coat and is warmer and cozier than the Patagonia Downtown Loft parka.

As others have mentioned, the jacket is very warm and cozy but the sizing is off. I had to order large because I am top size small and hips size medium, but everyone mentioned how tight this jacket is, so I decided to size up not one but two sizes. It ended up fitting just right everywhere. Is not exactly fashionable but is definitely warm. Kept me nice and toasty at -10C degrees in Germany and I didn't need many layers, just one thin thermal. I was even walking at the park with a German friend and she was complaining of how cold she was but I was so happy and warm in my Marmot parka.Love: the deep pockets, the soft flannel lining, and the huge hoodie. The fur on the hoodie is synthetic (which I prefer to real fur). Is also very light. My only complain is that the sleeves are really wide, I would've liked them to be tighter like the rest.See pics, for reference I am 1.67 (5'6") 69 kg (152 lbs), size S on top and size M/10 bottom.PS: My German husband used to tell me all the time 'there is no such thing as too cold weather, there is only wrong clothes'. After buying this parka, now I finally believe him :-) For the first time ever, I was able to really enjoy myself outdoors in -10C (14F) weather and snowy days.

I wish this fit me better. It came down to my knee on a 5'6" frame. And it more or less looked like I was wearing a sleeping bag with a fur hood. I will say that this kept me TOASTY warm! It is very good quality. The feel of the fabric is excellent, and you can tell that Marmot put some real thought into the fleece lined pockets and the fleecy upper on the inside. However, my proportions are hard to fit. It was very tight in the chest. The rest of the coat fit, but this coat just isn't made for someone with my proportions. I will say that this is definitely a quality garment. And the fur hood looked good, it didn't scream cheap looking like so many faux fur hoods do.

Where is the down?

I really wanted to love this coat. I did my research, and this brand and model keep coming up with good reviews across many different sites. First, it is sized quite small across the hips. I tried two sizes larger than I normally wear, and I could barely zip it up. Speaking of the zipper, it is low quality. I don't think it would last long at all, and for an item at this price range that is simply unacceptable. Finally, the 700 down fill.... where is it? I tried on two sizes of this coat. There is some fill around the upper torso and chest, but it is bulked with the fleece lining, so it's hard to tell how much actual down is in there. The lower portion of the coat feels rather empty and produces very little warmth (pretty much none to be honest).I'm returning this for a refund, and I'm going to keep looking for a coat that actually feels warm.

Even though it is a bit tight I love it as it doesn't look buggy but very feminine. Because it's warm I don't need many layers anyway. It is soft inside and very well finished. It's expensive but I don't regret buying when it's windy and cold outside and I feel warm and well covered. The hood is relatively small so it fits well and isn't blown off by wind.

sometimes the zipper won't work properly. There are two pulls so that you can open the bottom up a bit which is nice in theory but sometimes makes it hard to get the zipper to zip at all. Overall the coat is warm and fits well and I am happy with it. I did go up a size (bought an XL instead of an L) as other reviews said it ran small in the chest/shoulder area. It fits fine and I can wear a sweatshirt underneath it and it still fits comfortably.

I was a little apprehensive when ordering this coat, having read a number of reviews, about sizing. However, I needn't have worried. I am a size 14, 5'10" and the Large was perfect, even with a thicker jumper underneath. The length comes to my knees, which I really wanted and didn't expect. I wore it this last weekend when going to Brugge in Belgium, where it's surrounded by canals, therefore can get really rather cold when the wind gets up. I was as snug as the proverbial bug. I love the lined pockets, which were cosy. The extra internal pockets are useful too. The hood is a little big, but liveable. The coat is very lightweight too. Really very pleased with this purchase.

I love the coat, but it ran VERY small. I even researched the size guide at Marmot prior to ordering and ordered accordingly. I normally wear a med-large in most coats. I up-sized to an XL, but it was very tight across the shoulders, and would not have allowed room for layering anything under, as in a heavy sweater, or fleece, so I reordered in an XXL. I've never worn an XXL in my life, but it worked. In spite of the sizing issues, I am still giving it a 5 star review because it is attractive, well-made, has the detachable hood, and is exactly what I wanted. I've returned 2 coats from other high-end famous retailers this season because I was disappointed in the quality, which seems to have gone downhill. This coat is a keeper!!!!

I was in a quandary given the reviews as to whether to purchase the M or L. I'm 5'8", 34C and generally size 10/12 or M. Not wanting to feel restricted across the chest as I'm more broad in the shoulder, or by wearing a 2nd layer as mentioned in some of the reviews, it gets cold here... I purchased L! Delivery was super speedy and I'm truly delighted. The coat looks lovely, feels snug & cosy as soon as it's put on. It comes to my knees, light weight and water resistant. To date no down/feathers have appeared through the fabric. Highly recommended if you are seeking a very warm winter coat :)

I absolutely love this coat. I live in northern Montana. Some very cold winters. This coat doesn't seem to need layers. The only one I found with 2 onside pockets! Love the soft warm fur inside. Has everything. Runs small. I am 5'3" and 145. I also have fairly leg breasts. Usually wear med. Had to get xl. This one fits perfect. Arctic blue. Nice fur too

The XS is for a 25.5 inch waist, any larger then this will be super snug - I only know this as I've gained an inch after the hols. The design is elegant; the length reaches my knees (5ft 4), and doesn’t make me look like a Michelin man.To compare it against my North Face Metropols, the Marmot is superior. TNF doesn’t look as elegant and isn’t as warm as the Marmot Montreaux for several reasons:Marmot has cuffed the sleeves meaning the cold can’t creep up the arms.Marmot has added a faux suede type fabric inside the arms and also inside part of the inner lining, which keeps you warmer.Marmot has a smaller hood that sits close to the head, whereas north face metropolis has an enormous hood that’s not only visually ugly but can be blown off the head easily. The filling is generous and the cut is flattering to the figure.Marmot keeps me warm in windy and cold conditions whereas my North face metropolis only kept me warm in semi-cold conditions.Hope this helps.

Beautiful coat, but I had to return it as it was too tight on the shoulders... so if you have wide shoulders like me, it may be a bit tight. It fitted perfectly everywhere else.

I debated getting the medium or large after seeing other reviews. I’m a UK size 12. I’d describe the medium in this coat as somewhere between a UK 10 and 12. I think the large would have been fine on me. I’ll keep the medium though. It is fitted but I can wear a jumper underneath this, zip it up full and still sit down in it without anything seeming like it’s about to burst or break. These puffer coats can seem a little bulky sometimes, but this doesn’t, probably because it’s such a neat fit. There’s a useful inside zipped pocket. I haven’t worn it in cold weather but it seems like it will be warm. It’s a nice length, I’m 5’8”.

Lovely warm long coat, just what I wanted. A bit on the pricey side but very good quality so happy. Bought a large having read previous reviews, I’m usually a size 12, and wanted to be able to wear a thick jumper underneath. It comes to just above my knees and I’m 6ft tall.

A bit too long than expected, but extremely warm and comfortable. I would say it is better than Rab, as the outer line is softer and because of the fleece in the inner part and pockets, which helps a lot! Hood is a bit small, but faux fur helps to keep in place

Absolutely love the coat. It was purchased for me as a Christmas present. I must say though that the sizing of the garments are scary!! I have recently lost a lot of weight. and am a reasonable size now for my height. I had to get XXL in order to fit well!! This played a horrid mind game with me!

I love this coat - so light and well made - it looks really nice because of the angling of the padding. One downside for me was that the sleeves are way too long so the sleeves were bunched up and looked bulky. However I found I could fold the sleeves up about 2 - 4 inches which made all the difference.Another plus is that the fur round the hood is really nice and the hood a good size - not too big. In addition the beautiful material is rain resistant. Also its a lovely colour a great inky navy - not at all boring and it has a slight sheen -

I got it more than one year ago. I would say that in my opinion is overly priced. I bought for italian Winter and in my opinion it does its job only for not very low temperatures. I wear it with -2/-4 degrees and it is ok but not extremely warm, I mean cannot stay outside for hours feeling warm. I never tried on colder weather. Also the finish of the jacket and the general impression is that it is cheap, the fake fur is extremely fake and not very soft, the zip is hard to close. The good thing is that is very light and soft and confortable. It is made in Vietnam.
